Where are you located?
Cirque Du Rouge is located at 416 H Street NORTHEAST, Washington DC.The NORTHEAST is important, otherwise you'll end up in Chinatown. We are next to Boundary Road Restaurant and across the street from Sidamo Coffee and The Big Board in a tall, thin yellow brick building with iron gates.
What are your hours?
We are open from 12pm - 8pm Tuesday through Friday and 10am - 6pm on Saturday.
CLOSED Sunday and Monday.
What is the nearest Metro Station?
Union Station. We are approximately a 12 minute, 6 block walk. Please see our Location page for directions.
What form of payment is preferred?
We accept cash, and all forms of credit. Sorry, personal checks are NOT accepted.
Do you do piercings?
After a long discussion about whether to offer this service or not, the Krewe decided against it in order to concentrate on tattoo art. We HIGHLY recommend Rick's Tattoos in Arlington for all your piercing needs.
How much are your tattoos?
Our work is based on an hourly rate. Our minimum is $150. Consultations are free and a non refundable deposit is required to book a tattoo appointment.
Do you tattoo anyone under 18 with a parent's consent?
Absolutely not. Not under ANY circumstances. There are no exceptions. You must be 18 or older with valid government issued identification. No, your campus ID is not an acceptable form of proof of age.
How do I make an appointment?
We want to make sure you make an informed decision about your choice of artists and recommend that you visit each of our artist's personal websites and choose based on the type of tattooing in their portfolio. Please contact the artist of your choice via email to set up a consultation to discuss your plans and a subsequent appointment to be tattooed. Some have longer wait times than others and some may not be accepting new work in order to prevent excessive wait times and long wait lists, but we make every effort to make sure your requests are answered and make suggestions if there is another artist better suited for the work you have in mind.
Can I make an appointment on the phone?
No. Each artist maintains their own schedule and all appointments require a deposit that will go toward your tattoo appointment. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please contact the artist of your choice via email. We're happy to answer any questions you may have about this process if you call, but we do not keep a universal schedule.
Do you take walk-ins?
On occasion and only if there is an artist available. Our artists prefer to meet and discuss your requests and schedule appointments that are YOURS without interruption, and most of our customers seem to prefer this method as well. We can not guarantee that someone will be here waiting for walk in work. We welcome people stopping in, asking questions, viewing portfolios and getting advice and contact information from our management staff.
Do I tip my artist?
Tipping is not mandatory but it is definitely appreciated and makes an artist very happy.
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
If you bring a friend or family member, we will ask that they go elsewhere while you are being tattooed. Our rule is that only YOU may enter the work area with your artist. Groups of people are distracting to our artists and numbers increase quickly when everyone brings a friend. We strive for a calm and safe atmosphere. This is a firm rule. To be clear, we do not have a large waiting area to accommodate everyone's accompanying friend/family member and shouting to each other over our artists and front desk is very distracting. If you simply cannot get tattooed without your friends holding your hand, we may not be the right choice for you.
Can I bring my child/niece/nephew/under 18 friend or family member?
Absolutely NOT. No one under the age of 18 may enter Cirque Du Rouge during business hours, nor may they accompany an adult to a consultation. The safety and comfort of our customers and is our utmost concern and minding children or being distracted by curious tweens or teens does not create a productive work environment. If you find you can not find an adequate arrangement prior to your consultation or tattoo appointment, please contact your artist and they will be happy to reschedule you to a more convenient time.
What if I need to reschedule?
Emergencies happen. Please call or email as soon as possible to let your artist know and allow them to reschedule you. Deposits are non refundable and will be put toward your tattoo when you come to your rescheduled appointment.
What if my artist needs to reschedule?
Again, life happens to everyone, including your artist. Every attempt will be made to notify you as soon as possible and to offer you an alternate date.

We're not your parents, but we don't want to waste supplies or time on art that will not last.
Do you do tattoo parties?
Absolutely not. Please don't ask.
Did you shoot all the animals on the walls?
Only the ones that brought groups of friends or children, or had temper tantrums in the lobby or on Yelp.
Why do you have so many rules?
After years of working in various incarnations of tattoos shops, parlors and studios, the artists of Cirque have agreed to create an atmosphere for the mature tattoo enthusiast that reflects a desire for a unique, dynamically creative yet calm space. Everyone has a choice of where they would like to be tattooed and there are many shops and studios to choose from to reflect your particular need. Our collective is creating the space that they would choose personally. We strive to be respectful of the trust you have placed in us. Likewise we appreciate your respect of our creative space and process.
